Get ready for an epic journey through hundreds of years of London’s drinking history.
On Saturday 5 September 2026, we are hopping aboard a classic London bus to visit some of the city’s most legendary and infamous historic pubs.
This isn’t just a regular pub crawl—the transport is completely free, the drinks will be flowing onboard, and we’ve got a mid-crawl pizza delivery sorted to keep us going all day.
ONE BUS. EIGHT PUBS. ONE BOAT.
Along the route, we’ll be raising a glass where a young Joseph Stalin and Vladimir Lenin reportedly plotted the Russian Revolution in 1905. We’ll step back into the dark Victorian era at Spitalfields’ most famous pub, inextricably linked to the victims of Jack the Ripper.
As we head down to the river, we’ll visit London’s oldest riverside pub, dating back to around 1520 and once a notorious haven for pirates, smugglers, and the infamous “Hanging Judge” Jeffreys. You’ll also get to brave a classic East End boozer famously haunted by a phantom toilet-flushing ghost, and take in Thames Barrier views at a resilient pub that survived WWII bomb damage.
Heading back into central London, we’ll drink at a grand former bank building named after the gruesome punishment of traitors, an 1875 tavern where Prime Ministers like Churchill and Macmillan used to drink directly opposite Parliament, and finally end our night at a pub housing a complete replica of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson’s Baker Street sitting room!

Kings Cross Station

We depart from York Way, to the side of Kings Cross station, past McDonalds and just in front of Bus Stop G.
The Crown Tavern
12:10 · Clerkenwell
According to London legend, a young Joseph Stalin and Vladimir Lenin shared a pint here in 1905 while plotting the Russian Revolution. The upstairs Apollo Lounge was a 19th-century concert hall and later a filming location for Notes on a Scandal.
The Ten Bells
12:55 · Spitalfields
Infamous for its Jack the Ripper connections. Victim Annie Chapman drank here the morning she was murdered in 1888, and Mary Jane Kelly worked the streets outside. Features stunning restored Victorian tiling and the ceramic mural Spitalfields in ye Olden Time.
The Prospect of Whitby

London’s oldest riverside pub (c. 1520). Originally ‘The Devil’s Tavern’, a den for pirates and smugglers. The infamous Hanging Judge Jeffreys drank here while watching executions. Original flagstone floor survives; a mock noose dangles over the Thames out back.
The Bow Bells

A resilient East End boozer surviving since the 1860s, famous for being haunted since the 1970s by a phantom that flushes the women’s toilets. During a 1974 seance, the bathroom door violently swung open and smashed a pane of glass.
Woolwich Ferry

Not a pub, but a highlight! The bus drives right onto the boat. There has been a ferry service here for more than 700 years.
Fresh air, skyline views, and a clear sight of the Thames Barrier. A chance to stretch your legs and take some photos before the second half begins.
The Anchor & Hope
17:00 · Charlton
Historic riverside pub rebuilt in 1899 after a devastating fire. Survived WWII bomb damage that flattened much of the surrounding area. The front paved area offers uninterrupted views of the river and the Thames Barrier.
The Hung, Drawn & Quartered
19:25 · Tower Hill
Close to the Tower of London and named after the gruesome punishment for traitors. Housed in a former bank building with grand architecture, high ceilings, and historical prints. A traditional Fuller’s ale house.
St Stephen’s Tavern
20:25 · Westminster
Opened in 1875, directly opposite the Houses of Parliament. Frequented by Churchill and Macmillan in their day. Features an original division bell inside the bar, once used to summon MPs to vote.
The Sherlock Holmes
21:10 · Trafalgar Square
Transformed in 1957 from the Northumberland Hotel into a shrine to Arthur Conan Doyle, following the 1951 Festival of Britain exhibition. Contains a glass-encased replica of Holmes and Watson’s sitting room at 221B Baker Street.
Note: The bus may run slightly late, but every effort will be made to get people heading out of London back to the city centre in time for their trains.
🚨 Crawl Survival Guide
Please read this before boarding:
- Mind the Gap (and the Time): We are running on a tight schedule. When the driver signals it is time to move, finish your pint and get back on board. If you are late, you are catching an Uber to the next stop!
- Don’t be a Bus Wanker: Drinks and snacks are heavily encouraged onboard. We will have a stash available, plus a mid-crawl pizza delivery directly to the vehicle. Please make sure to use the bins provided!
- Pace Yourself: This is a marathon, not a sprint. We have eight pubs, one ferry, and a full day ahead of us. Legend has it that on a previous trip someone once got so enthusiastic they attempted a cartwheel outside a pub and broke their ankle.
- The Terminus: The route ends at around 9:10 PM at The Sherlock Holmes near Trafalgar Square. Charing Cross, Embankment, and Leicester Square stations are all within a few minutes’ walk. From there you can head home, grab food, or carry the party on!
